Our Successes Meet Tommy
In this story, learn about how Tommy looked to the power of friendship to get through the challenges of the pandemic.
A Toast to Friendship
A local coffee shop can be a great place to relax with a freshly brewed beverage and enjoy the company of passing strangers. Sometimes those strangers can become wonderful new friends! That is exactly how Tommy and Alex met each other at Beth’s Bakery in Sandwich, MA.
Instant Friendship
Tommy is a native Cape Codder who enjoys art, crafts, inspirational magazines and spending time with friends at his local coffee shop. Happiest when he can keep his regular routine, Tommy enjoys visiting his favorite spots with treasured friends and savoring those moments of connection.
A regular at Beth's Bakery, Tommy is always looking forward to “Coffee Meetups” with his good friend, Alex. When Alex and his family relocated to Massachusetts from Wisconsin, as chance would have it, both coffee-lovers found themselves at the same place at the same time and quickly struck up a friendship that has continued to grow and strengthen.
For over two years, Tommy and Alex met every Tuesday morning for coffee (or sometimes tea), always toasting a hearty “Cheers!” Their favorite barista, Nina, knowing them so well, would have their cups ready when they come to the bakery.
Coffee Meetups
With the onset of the COVID-19 in March of 2020, those weekly coffee meetups had to be put on hold. While staying safe at home, Tommy busied himself with his creative hobbies, enjoying artistic pursuits and making the most of the time in quarantine. He missed getting out to his typical hangouts, art classes, and especially seeing his good friend Alex.
After four months of missing their usual routine, the two friends were able to get together during the summer of the pandemic for a safe, socially distanced breakfast. Tommy, who loves giving big hugs, made it a point to adapt to elbow bumps.
A Great Blend
Above all, Tommy is a kind and loyal friend —Alex says Tommy “has a big heart and is a generous man.” Although their Tuesday meetups were put on hold during the pandemic, they found safe ways to meet and stay connected with socially distant breakfasts and visits to outdoor attractions.
They look forward to getting back to their weekly routine; however, they are grateful to be able to enjoy time together whenever possible during the ongoing pandemic. In December of 2020, they found a way to visit an outdoor museum in the area to take in the marvelous display of Holiday lights!
The friendship Tommy and Alex share is warm and strong, just like a great cup of coffee!
"A cup of coffee shared with a friend is Happiness Tasted and Time Well Spent."
